Being a Communications Supervisor, I have been working on a process/procedure/policy for active threats for Dispatch. Some of the information gained from this course gave me another perspective so that I know what is going on outside of the walls of Dispatch to better aid responders on scene.

Which part(s) of the course was LEAST valuable to you? Please explain why.

I feel that in the scenarios, dispatchers weren't overly valuable. I think it would've been more beneficial to dispatchers to actually take a call so that we can experience what it is like to take those frantic calls regarding an active shooter incident.

Overall, I appreciated the delivery of the material and enjoyed watching the scenarios unfold.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

Hostage negotiation for communications officers. We work one at a time in my department and don't always have an abundance of resources. OFten times, our communications officers may have to act as negotiator until officers arrive on scene.

I think that this course gave me knowledge to how operations in a active shooter event works. I am unaware of all the people needed to make a incident successful.

Overall as a dispatcher I don't think that this class did me much good. I believe that this class is more focused towards fire, ems and law enforcement.

I feel like in the scenarios instructors did not give a lot of feedback to dispatchers. Instead it felt like the dispatchers were giving feedback along with the instructors to others in the class. I think that for me to use the information given in the class an entire agency would have to come to this class rather then just one dispatcher from the agency.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

Negotiation Training.

Understanding the different roles dependent on the time of arrival, and where help could be used.

Being set in some of the higher supervision roles due to rank within the departments. Great to know where we could help, but felt that our leadership could continue to grow from being in those positions instead of not supervision in those roles.

Seeing what can be done to make it more "real". Adding in the possibilities of using less lethal weapons if needed.

Training that could tie into some of the other situations that we could come upon, and how to be best prepared for them.
