The way they break down assignments due to the individuals background. Police, Fire, PIO.

I would keep in mind the current climate of law enforcement and the area where the training is being hosted. Example: Maryland our tactics are a little more geared to slow things down whenever the opportunity presents itself. Not at the decision of the first on scene, but command.

PIO training, and Incident Commander.

As a PIO, the main benefit was being immersed in the environment without restriction.

The actual PIO training part was a little underdeveloped, as it did not really include actual generation of social media, which is the main portion of communicating. This is a minor nit. Training was good overall.

A more developed PIO piece would be nice.

As a PIO it was very valuable to assist at the command post and get a look into the information coming in. The press conference time expectations were a great comparison to real world expectations.

I think that there could be more PIO work to be done in the real time exercises.

I would try to add elements that relate to PIO work in the current day. The press conference experience was great, but in reality we would be sharing information on social media. We supplemented this simply by stating we would share certain information but I think having a way to actually exercise this would be helpful.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

I would like even more training on complex coordinated events in relation to my role as a PIO.

As a PIO usually working in the EOC, I found it most valuable to work with the forward incident command and the area command. I feel it helped me and those in the command position to realize the importance of facts and communication with the public.

The staging areas were least valuable, but seeing how they worked and interacted did have value.

I know it is for Active Shooter, but as a PIO not in law enforcement or fire EMS, after the first couple of scenarios, you may want to use the first responders of command people more in writing the script. the use of IC or AC to respond to questions was great.

Getting better at technology available to get out the meseging.
