AS A CIVILIAN SECURITY DIRECTOR, IT WAS MOST VALUABLE TO HAVE AN IN DEPTH UNDERSTANDING OF THE LE/FIRE/EMS RESPONSE TO AN ACTIVE SHOOTER/MASS EVENT AT A SITE SIMILAR TO MY AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (COLUMBUS ZOO).

BECAUSE I AM A CIVILIAN, I WAS NOT ASSIGNED A UNIT NUMBER AND WAS NOT ABLE TO BE UTILIZED IN THE SYSTEM AS A RESOURCE. TO THAT END, I PARTICIPATED IN AREAS WHERE A SCRIBE WAS NEEDED AND ASSISTED RESPONDING LE OR EMS TEAMS WITH RADIO COMMUNICATIONS. THESE ELEMENTS MADE ME USEFUL AND GAVE ME THE ABILITY TO OBSERVE THE SCENARIOS FROM A WIDE SCOPE.

Having very limited exposure to the incidents we used in this class, I came into the class not knowing terms such as CCP, AEP, etc.

I can't think of anything. Great delivery of this course.

I wasn't sure what a dispatcher would get out of this class prior to coming. I was worried it would not be beneficial as assumed it would only look at the field portion of the scenes. I was wrong. This really was beneficial and made me think if our comm center was truly prepared to such an incident. Brings the need for additional specialized training to the forefront.

The live exercises because it helped show the why for things.

Some of the tactical portions since those are not applicable to dispatch.

Dispatch was much more involved in later exercises and I liked how the instructors were supportive of dispatch and encouraged the other members to utilize our skills appropriately.
