For less tech s savvy people, the computer simulations can be a challenge. Also, consider having a discussion of changing Black Triage status to Grey Triage Status to minimize public confusion or perception of what this may mean to someone hearing it and not knowing the lingo.

As a ground level EMT, I learned how command worked much better and even though I will most likely not be in a command role knowing the dynamics from a tactical and command level helped me not only understand my role during an active shooter event, but also during MCI events in general.

Instructors helped me in understanding radio lingo and communications, helped nurture my learning experience and role as a new EMT. Learning about the statistics and case studies, provided new perspective as well as a first responder.

The practical portions were great from the medical side, as I was able to cycle through each position multiple times allowing me to apply lessons learned from previous exercises. The instructors were very knowledgeable and personable, able to answer all my questions.

If anything, I would like even more focus on the medical, as the days went on the focus was placed more towards law enforcement. I would recommend a chapter added on resource management, ie making sure what hospitals can take what kind of patients and how many.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

More ICS courses, maybe even something similar to a project management class for a focus on organization and checklists.
