I had watched all of the video content, but had a lot of difficulty retaining any of it without context. When we got to do the hands on practical stuff at the Oscar Meyer building, it made everything make sense. I went from really feeling unconfident and uncomfortable with the content, to being decently confident in the content.

During scenarios it might be helpful to alter how things play out so as initial members of the rtf we don’t see how everything is staged ahead of time.

Which part(s) of the course was MOST valuable to you. Please explain why.

Going through the simulation. The way it was set up from having fire/ ems on scene to the care and passion of the actors, everything made it feel so real and made me think in a way that I normally probably wouldn’t have. It allowed for me to come up with questions as if I had been on a real call. This was one of my favorite days and I hope fire & ems continue to come to these trainings.

Which part(s) of the course was LEAST valuable to you? Please explain why.

I think that when we do the paper and “marking chip” practice, we could spread people out into different rooms. It would allow for a more realistic set up. Example being it would allow people to practice on the radio while also being able to still be close enough where it doesn’t take up an adequate amount of time. With as many people as we had in the room it was a little chaotic and challenging in my opinion.

The instructors did an amazing job of teaching the material and If you got to a point where you got stuck, rather then telling you what to do, they would pose a question and/ or make you guide yourself as to what you should be doing. As well as following up with you afterwards.

I think for me it showed me just how important communication is because it’s the basic building block for everything we do. Not only that but being able to think on the fly and react to what’s going on.
