Honestly, every aspect what utilized and would be used in my daily job duties if this were to happen.

Add more scribe positions if you're able. I am a dispatcher but scribed for Tactical, Staging, and Command all three days. Having someone there to take focus off of "how" to contain and display the information provided during the exercises relieves the stress of one hands on activities.

Negotiations!!!.

Dispatch didn't seem to be involved in the scenarios much if at all. 5 dispatchers were too many, i would suggest 2 at the most.

The scenarios didn't seem to effectively simulate how chaotic i imagine things would be in the dispatch center. there were no phone calls coming in from the public and no one on the radio was asking dispatch for anything needed. this training didn't seem to be geared towards dispatch at all.

The hands on practical experience was the most helpful for me. With me being new to the public safety communications arena , this exponentially increased my confidence to jump in during a situation like this.

For the dispatch role, it may be beneficial to turn up the heat and have additional calls for them to manage, like "routine" calls.

Additional training that we can take back to our center and share the information. Also, having this ASIM course come back so more of our first responders can complete it.

Being actively involved and co-located with fire, EMS and law enforcement to see how the scene unfolds, as well as their communication on scene.

Even though I enjoyed being located with the teams, it would be interesting to see if more information was communicated over the radio if dispatch was put behind a screen or in a separate room. We could hear the exchange of information but officers were not relaying it to us via radio so it was not documented in the notes. This could actually be a real life example.

What other training is most important to you now that you have completed this course?

Negotiator training for when the suspect calls into dispatch and how to partner with law enforcement/fire departments with this information.
