Media briefings - as PIO this was the most relevant aspect of the course but it was still valuable seeing how all the pieces work together.

The tactical aspects of the response are not as relevant to the PIO role.

Press briefings and getting a hands-on understanding of the different levels in an incident.

It was heavy on the LE, fire and ems which was helpful but as a PIO may have been a bit much, still nice to have that working knowledge though.

I think it would be great to have a few injectable situations for public information officers who attend. Maybe coordinating an initial message for social media and press along with periodic updates to help PIOs practice in these stressful type of situations.

As a PIO interacting with incident and area command to prepare for a media briefing was the most valuable because it helped me understand the response and learn what questions to ask.
